Daughter’s love sharing the work they are doing. Here is just a small sample of all the things the Wyandot Chapter, NSDAR, did this year.

Veterans Day Parade

For over 104 years our veterans have been celebrated in the Leavenworth County Veterans Day parade. Daughters of the American Revolution gathered from several chapters from around the area to celebrate our veterans. We passed out thousands of flags to those who came out and braved the cold. After lunch, everyone gathered on base to lay a wreath at the Buffalo Soldier Monument.

Naturalization Ceremonies

This year we saw 80 new citizens swear their Oath of Allegiance and finally complete their journey to become citizens of the United States. Daughters from the John & Hattie Possum Chapter, NSDAR, and the Wyandot Chapter, NSDAR, passed out Flag Code cards for the new citizens. We also hosted a reception where families were able to take photos with the members of the Sons of the Revolution (SAR) who dressed up for the occasion.

Vietnam Veteran Pinning Ceremony

Launched under the Obama Administration, Congress authored the commemoration of the Vietnam War. The commemoration is set to continue through Veterans Day 2025. The goal of the commemoration is to honor and welcome home every veteran who served during the Vietnam era. Each veteran or surviving spouse is honored with a commemorative pin. We cannot say it enough, “On behalf of a grateful nation, we thank you.”

Members of the Wyandot Chapter, NSDAR, assisted in the pinning ceremony hosted by the Sagamore Chapter, NSDAR.

Holiday Service Project

This year for our holiday service project, we stuffed 60 stockings for low-income children in the Kansas City, Kansas, area. We provided stuffed stockings and several large boxes of children’s books to Hands to Hearts KC. Hands to Hearts KC was appreciative of the donation.  We donated 60 hats for the children, unknown to us, the prior donation of stocking caps did not arrive in time for their distribution efforts. All the hats, stockings, and books were delivered to children in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools system.

Wreaths Across America

The goal of Wreaths Across America is to “Remember the fallen. Honor those who serve. Teach the next generation the value of freedom.” Wreaths Across America is an annual event that is always held on the third Saturday in December. Daughters from Wyandot Chapter, NSDAR, John & Hattie Possum Chapter, NSDAR, and the Olathe Chapter, NSDAR, braved the cold to remember and honor those that served.

All photos were provided by members of NSDAR.
